Saint Martin, A Relaxing Look Back

Marianne Ahlgren had the opportunity to visit Saint Martin/Sint Maarten staying at the Grand Case Beach Club for a family trip.

Saint Martin/Sint Maarten is an absolutely beautiful country. My family and I stayed at the Grand Case Beach Club, in Grand Case (on the French side of the island; Sint Maarten is the Dutch side), and, luckily for us, the capital of amazing food! When we checked into our room at the resort, we were given 2 complimentary bottles of French wine, which was so thoughtful and delicious. The food at the resort's on-site restaurant was flavorful and incredible.

The service at the Grand Case Beach Club was top-notch. The restaurant servers were always enthusiastic and happy, and our cleaning lady Myra was probably my favorite person that we met all week. She went above and beyond her job requirements, always greeting us and engaging in pleasant conversation and even doing our dishes for us when we left them in the sink! She truly embodies “The Friendly Island” motto of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten. Despite the fact that many people on the island do not have a lot financially, they all make the best of what they do have: beautiful weather, incredible food, and warm neighbors, family, and friends.

The water is clear and blue and beautiful. The greenery and the mountains all around the island are simply incredible. The ocean breeze is spectacular, a wonderful respite to the Caribbean humidity. Grand Case Beach Club has 2 private beaches, one that is larger and one that is a private cove of sorts. I loved the privacy and intimacy and the water went almost all the way up to the rocks, so our comfortable lounge chairs were in the water. It was incredibly relaxing and soothing.

For those of you who love to shop, Philipsburg had a much bigger variety than Marigot. There was a good mix of inexpensive shops and upscale boutiques and just overall, a lot more to choose from. But I say, visit both and see what you prefer!

Honestly, the best part of the trip was just getting to spend time with my family, soaking up the warm sun rays and bathing in the beautiful Caribbean sea. The Caribbean is just such a beautiful place and I am lucky to have gotten to vacation in Saint Martin!
